Sculpture in limestoneThe limestone is a material more humble and less expensive than the marble. It merges more easily into the nature thanks to its panel of colours and its shaded rough surface. Sculptures created from limestone may be very subtle, and according to the quality of the limestone, it is possible to create large dimension sculptures or statuettes, as well as bas-reliefs carefully chiselled. The tools used to shape the limestone are similar to those used to sculpt the wood, such as forged steel. Limestone is often chosen for the range of colours it offers, and its cost more modest than the marble of Carrara. Its appearance is also warmer than the marble’s. Thus limestone is given priority for the realisation of decorations on high-end elegant stone furniture: stylish fireplace, sculpted handrail, garden seat, decorative basin, garden statue, ornamental fountain…Etc. Limestone is, for the same reasons, being used in a majority of ornamentations for listed historical monuments such as pinnacles, shells, mascarons, Atlantis, caryatids, mi-reliefs, bas-reliefs, haut-reliefs, acanthus leaves, and also for the reproduction of ornamentations of all styles: figurative, classical or contemporary. On demand, I create custom limestone sculptures. I also sculpt the marble of Carrara, the wood or I can shape a clay modelling prior to the creation of a bronze sculpture. Other more contemporary and industrial materials may also be used for the creation of a sculpture (resin…etc). I restore impaired limestone sculptures which necessitate a partial or total replacement, with specific restoration techniques allowing a better preservation.
